UNWANTED items and bits of junk are needed for an art installation at this year's Brisfest.
A 40-strong team of volunteers, based in a warehouse in Bedminster, are working on design for the festival, which takes place on September 22 and 23 at Ashton Court.
The team is working predominantly with recycled and used materials, and recovered objects, and have the challenge of decorating 11 stages, five bars and a number of backstage areas, that will keep festival goers entertained.
Lampshades, clocks, umbrellas, picture frames, bird cages and old curtains are all on their wish list, but any other interesting items will also be considered. The clocks will be used to build a giant clock tower, whilst the umbrellas will form a ceiling installation. Old tattered lampshades will be used to decorate the Vintage Bar, and a giant lampshade will be created from recycled plastic cups.
According to organisers of Brisfest the UK generates approximately 290 million tonnes of waste every year, which is harmful to the environment and costly for businesses.
Sarah Keates, décor team manager, said: "It's a really easy way to get involved in the festival. When you come to Brisfest you'll be able to see your old umbrella in a ceiling installation or your broken clock in the clock tower. It's our way of cutting down on waste and giving everyone a chance to contribute to the festival."
If you have any junk that you would like to contribute to Brisfest, you can get in touch by calling 0117 328 1492 or emailing contact@brisfest.co.uk.
